Hello UPTOWN families

We hope that this email finds everyone in good health. This year has been a difficult one for everyone and I am sure we are all looking forward to a return to normalcy and seeing our players out on field again.

Usually this time of the year, we are in full spring registration mode. Whether its running free clinics, prepping our playing fields and getting ready for player evaluations. Unfortunately, due to this pandemic it has been difficult for us as a league to plan or proceed without clear direction from state and city that we are safe in returning to play. We do not know what guidelines or restrictions might still be in place, so we want to make sure we are well informed, and our families are as well before fully opening Spring 2021 registration and beginning play.

What we have done is open registration that will guarantee your player a spot once we return to play. This is a fully refundable $25 placeholder fee that will go towards any spring registration fees. For more info and to guarantee a spot for upcoming season click here: 2021 Registration Info

Thank you all for your continued support and rest assure, that we are committed as a league to get up and running as soon as we are allowed. Please continue to stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back at UPTOWN soon!

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will not be able to continue our 2020 spring season. We have worked hard to have contingencies in place, however the city is not allowing any permits for youth user groups at this time.

City Council passed a motion yesterday to begin developing protocols for when youth sports can resume. They are giving themselves 60 days to come up with a strategy on return to play guidelines. However, they will have to follow state guidelines and currently there is no timetable for when that will happen.

Calling this season a wrap has not been an easy choice. But public safety and health are taking a priority right now, so we have to play by the rules we are given. We look forward to coming back stronger once we are allowed and are hopeful that we can still pull off our Fall Ball season. Fall registration will open up once given the go ahead from LB Parks and Recreation.

Thank you all and GO UPTOWN!

Please see below for partial refund/credit information

Partial Credits/Partial Refunds:

Players choosing not to continue play this season will have the option of either a partial refund or a partial credit applied to either the Fall 2020 Season or the Spring 2021 Season. If you opt for partial credit you will not be issued any refund amount.  Likewise, if you opt for the partial refund, then the partial credit will not apply to either future season and a check will be issued to you after June 15th. The partial credit/partial refunds amount will be:

6U/Tee ball - $40

Softball 8U-14U - $60

Baseball Farm – Majors - $100
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How were these amounts determined?

Many upfront costs and required items to operate the League for the Spring Season were already purchased and/or implemented such as jerseys, hats, insurance fees, field improvements, and other regular season items which therefore cannot be reimbursed.  Refundable/creditable items are the budgeted future costs of Trophies ($8), Yearbooks ($8), Pictures ($4), and the snack shack deposit Softball *($40) or Baseball * ($80). NOTE - If you already received your snack shack deposit, then you would only receive $20 back for the other budgeted future cost items.

*Note – Softball 6U and Baseball Tee Ball Programs were not required to make a Snack Shack Deposit, therefore they will not be receiving that portion of the partial refund or partial credit.

Our board has developed a plan for partial credits/refunds for all divisions... Please keep in mind that the operational expenses such as uniforms, equipment, field improvements and supplies were all required to start up spring play and have been paid for already. Here go following options to apply partial credits or receive partial refunds.

Option #1 - You may apply your credit towards our Fall 2020 season. (Pending that we are allowed to play at that time).

Option #2 - You may apply your credit towards our Spring 2021 season.

Option #3- You may pick up or request your partial check be mailed. League volunteers will be at Cherry Park this Saturday, June 20th 9am-12pm for anyone wishing to pick up a check. If you wish for it to be mailed, please send following information to [email protected]. (Players name, Division, Address to mail check and who to make it out to). Deadline to pick up or request your partial refund will be July 17th. If not picked up or requested by this date, then you will only have the option for partial credit towards Fall 2020 or Spring 2021.

Option #4 - Donate your credit to UPTOWN LBYBS. Our league has taken a big hit financially this season and going forward a lot of startup expenses will be needed to keep everyone safe. This pandemic is nothing we planned for and league will be financially responsible for any safety guidelines or policies that will be required.

If you decide to donate your credit, the league will provide you with our 501(c)(3) information so you can use the donation as a tax write off. Please contact [email protected] if you wish to donate.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our COVID-19 survey... Great data captured and we will use these results to come up with a strategy on how to move forward. Of course we can not and will not do anything without adhering to any CDC recommendations and following State, County and City of LB guidelines. Please assure, that safety is our top priority and we will not rush anything back without ensuring things are in place to keep everyone safe.

Thanks again and GO UPTOWN

Hello UPTOWN

We hope everyone is doing well and keeping their spirits up during this COVID-19 pandemic. We understand this is a difficult time in all of our lives and we all want to get back to some kind of normalcy and routine.

Currently, our league is still shut down until May 16th. Depending on CDC, state and local guidelines it may be pushed back. In order to prepare for possibility of continuing our 2020 spring season, we are conducting a league survey to get our league members sentiment on how and if we should continue to play. We understand things will obviously look different and we are prepared to make those changes in order to keep everyone safe. However, your honest input is crucial in how we do it.

Please, take a minute to complete survey. We will use the date gathered to begin a play for how we put it all back together when allowed.

Thank you all and stay safe!

Hello UPTOWN

First off, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Scary times but please stay positive and keep the faith that all goes well and we get back to doing what we love. As of now City of LB has shut down all recreation in parks until April 19th. We are on hold until then and depending how things play out with this pandemic it could be longer then that. Hopefully we get good news next few weeks and fields open up so we can get kids out there playing.

Once fields open up, we will be looking to make up as many games as possible and hopefully get a full regular season of games for everyone. This could mean playing thru June and possibly early July. Please be open to it and again, we will do our best to give UPTOWN families the full regular season of games they deserve.

Please stay safe everyone and we look forward to seeing you at field soon!

Dear League Members & Community-At-Large

With the increasing number of cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) being reported across the world, UPTOWN LBYBS (ULBYBS) wants to provide its members with guidelines and best practices outlined by various Local, National and International agencies. We are monitoring and following all the up to date guidelines laid out by Babe Ruth Baseball, USA Softball and all these agencies, including Long Beach Health Dept, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and The World Health Organization (WHO) for the latest updates.

As a precautionary method, ULBYBS is immediately instituting a "no contact, no handshake policy" to be observed at every level of the organization until further notice. This includes all physical contact and extends to customary game activities, such as pre - game hand-shakes, umpire coach introductions, and post game hand-shakes between teams. Instead staff, players and coaches will just say "good game" followed by a "thank you parents".

To reinforce health safety and best practices for prevention, please read the list below:

  • Keep your player home if he/she is sick; please don’t send them to practices or games

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Wash hands after sneezing.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

As a league, safety and public health is a priority. I understand, we have a lot on calendar regarding games, Picture Day, etc... But we all need to be patient and understand that we can only work with information we are given. I am sure it will change at any given minute, hour or day. These events over the past few weeks have us all shocked, but rest assure we are not taking it lightly and are doing our due diligence to make sure correct information is going out to all of you in real time.

For now, games will continue until we are directed by local or league officials to suspend play. We will work to keep website updated with latest info, so please check there for further updates.

Thank you all and God Bless

Andy Hernandez
President
